COLLISION INSURANCE

Collision insurance coverage pays for damage caused to your vehicle in an automobile accident. Standard collision coverage will pay for any repairs up to the fair market value of your car. Collision coverage usually includes an insurance deductible. It’s the amount of money you pay toward repairs before your collision insurance kicks in. The higher the deductible you’re willing to pay, the less the collision coverage will cost.

COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE (OTHER THAN COLLISION)

Comprehensive insurance covers damage done to your car in some way other than a collision, such as if it were stolen or vandalized. Flood, hurricane, theft, windshield damage and fire are also events usually covered by comprehensive car insurance. Like collision, comprehensive will pay up to the fair market value of your car (less your insurance deductible.) And although it’s not legally required by any state, you will probably need it if your car is financed.

Liability Insurance

Tennessee's Financial Responsibility Law requires you to be financially responsible in the event of an automobile accident. Generally, the easiest way to meet your financial responsibility requirement under state law is to get covered by an auto liability insurance policy.

Uninsured drivers in Tennessee will pay fines and risk losing their vehicle registration if they are unable to demonstrate proof of financial responsibility.

The required minimum limits of your liability car insurance are:

  • $25,000 for each injury or death per accident.
  • $50,000 for total injuries or deaths per accident.
  • $25,000 for property damage per accident.

How Much Auto Insurance Do You Need?

The amount of auto insurance a driver needs can depend on various factors, such as their state's minimum insurance requirements, the value of their vehicle, their driving habits, and their financial situation. It is recommended you have additional coverage beyond the basic auto liability policy, such as collision and comprehensive insurance, to protect against damage to the policyholder's own vehicle, theft, or other incidents. Drivers with higher-value vehicles may also consider increasing their coverage limits or adding umbrella insurance to protect against potential lawsuits. Ultimately, it is important for drivers to evaluate their individual needs and risks and consult our insurance professionals to determine the amount of coverage that is necessary.
